Clinical Laboratory Scientist

Major Duties:
Lead Duties- 25% Assists supervisor, laboratory director and laboratory staff with completion of quality assurance requirements, such as calibrations, correlations, data integrity checks, satisfaction surveys, etc. Serves as Clinical Laboratory Scientist responsible for the application, modification and adaption of analytical methods and procedures in the performance of standardized tests and examinations of human tissue, body fluids and other substances in the clinical laboratory under the direction of the laboratory director and or technical supervisor. Monitors and orders supplies to ensure continuity of operations. Clinical Laboratory Scientist Duties- 75% Complete blood counts, sedimentation rates, basic coagulation, urinalysis, clinical chemistry, basic immunoassays. Processes and stores specimens to be analyzed at a later date and follows laboratory procedures for collection and transportation of specimens that are to be sent to reference laboratories. Prepares reagents, solutions, standards and controls to be used in different areas within the established guidelines for accuracy and precision. Operates, maintains and troubleshoots a variety of simple and complex laboratory analyzers and instrumentation and performs scheduled preventive maintenance in each area on a daily basis and keeps the necessary records and Evaluates test results for accuracy, upon analysis and evaluation of collection techniques and conditions, specimen characteristics, adequacy of reagents, quality control and instrument performance and correlation with other laboratory data and patient's clinical history when provided To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree from a regionally accredited college/university including courses in biological science, chemistry and mathematics, AND successful completion of a Medical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or accrediting boy recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. OR Completed a full 4-year course of study that included 12 months in a college or hospital-based medical technology program or medical technology school approved by a recognized accrediting organization. The professional medical technology curriculum may have consisted of a 1-year post-bachelor's certificate program or the last 1 or 2 years of a 4-year program of study culminating in a bachelor's degree in medical technology.OR Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree from an accredited college/university, including 16 semester hours 924 quarter hours) of biological science (with one semester in microbiology), 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of chemistry (with one semester in organic or biochemistry), one semester (one quarter) of mathematics, AND 5 years of full time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology and Urinalysis/Body Fluids. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM
Qualifications:
3-years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D degree or equivalent doctoral decree in (1) general field of medical technology, (2) one of the disciplines or specialized areas of medical technology, or (3) a field directly related and applicable to medial technology or the position to be filled. OR (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
Calculating from statistical data, using standard deviation, coefficient of variation, mean value formulas, use of histograms and negative skew; maintaining effective, accessible section record system, including patient testing reports, daily section worksheets and instrumentation preventative maintenances reports; providing training to junior and generalist technologists; conferring with attending physicians on a daily basis in solving complicated patient testing and diagnostic problems.
